La Liga Week 22 Sunday Preview 6-2-2011
It is time for yet another round of La Liga fixtures with three matches taking place on Sunday. Each team has their own needs for a win with one team specifically needing a win in order to hang on in the table. Here are the previews for each match for Sunday’s Matchday 22.
Sevilla vs. Malaga
Sevilla haven’t exactly been consistent this season and are currently in eighth place despite having won four of their last five matches. Sevilla is attempting to make their way to next year’s Champions League. Renato will unlikely be part of the squad on Sunday due to an ankle issue but nothing has been set in stone yet. Both Sergio Sanchez and Mouhamadou Dabo are suspended and will miss the game as will Tiberio Guarente, Luca Cigarini and Ivica Dragutinovic.
Malaga, who are at an all-time low, are in a very dissimilar position and will be looking to secure a victory at Sevilla with their squad. They are at the bottom of the standings and are seriously hanging on by a thread and haven’t won a single game in their last five matches. Both Ruben and Jesus Gamez are on the sidelines for this one due to injuries while both Helder Rosario and Martin Demichelis are considered to be fit to play.
Real Madrid vs. Real Sociedad
After Madrid’s 1-0 loss last weekend, they fell significantly behind so yet another defeat will be disastrous for them. Madrid will find themselves behind again and must win Sunday’s game against Sociedad in order to just barely hang on to Blaugrana’s coat tails.
Madrid have won four out of their last five matches. Madrid will have to play without Pepe, Gonzalo Higuain and Jerzy Dudek due to being sidelined with injuries. A suspension will keep Sergio Ramos from playing with Real Madrid on Sunday. However, the team will welcome back Sami Khedira.
Sociedad have won three of their last five matches. Sociedad will be without Joseba Llorente as he is going to be out for the remainder of the season due to back issues. However, Real Sociedad will have Mikel Gonzalez back after being suspended just last weekend, which will give the team a significant boost that they may need in order to win this match.
Valencia vs. Hercules
Valencia will look to secure a win in hopes of regaining their strength and reopening a winning streak. Valencia was in a position to add to their five-game winning streak until last weekend’s match against Racing de Santander ended in a draw.
Valencia may very well debut newly acquired Jonas Goncalves and no new injuries are on the table; however, the club will be without Ricardo Costa, who is on suspension. Juan Mata will be out with an ankle issue and problems are still on the curtain for Cesar Sanchez, Miguel Moya, Vicente Rodriguez and David Albelda.
Hercules has only secured a victory in one of their last five matches. After being dismissed from last weekend’s Barcelona match, Javier Farina won’t be in attendance as he is on suspension. Noe Pamarot, Abraham Paz and Mohammed Sarr are all unlikely to be on the field Sunday and Abel Aguilar has been dealing with gastroenteritis and is doubtful as well.
