Is Smoltz Going To Turn Around?
Anyone who is familiar with baseball knows of the Boston Red Sox. They are very popular, not just in the USA but around the world. Terry Francona is the manager of the Boston Red Sox. He is a top-notch head coach and has the respect of many fans. Despite the fame that Terry Francona has with the Boston Red Sox, he couldn’t get the popular ace, John Smoltz, back and working in top form, and that has disappointed a lot of people. Smoltz’s playing has been going steadily downhill, and that has put a lot of things in jeopardy for him.
There will be some more competition for this Hall of Fame player, as Dave Duncan and Tony LaRussa will try to take over where the Boston Red Sox left off. Many people are still hoping that Smoltz will turn around again and play like he use to with the Atlanta Braves. If he does this, he will gain many fans. Not only will he gain fans, but he will gain a lot of chances for new contracts. If he doesn’t come back into the swing of things, people might start losing hope in Smoltz, but maybe not all of them will give up on him.
If Smoltz can turn things around with the Cardinals, they might have a shot at winning the World Series. It looks like Smoltz is now under a lot of pressure this year. Part of Smoltz’s pressure is based on the fact he will be joining up with Adam Wainright and Carpenter if he wins. If he does not win, it could actually cost him his career and his days of baseball just might be over. Smoltz does not wish for his career to be over just yet. He still feels like he has a lot that he can give to his team.
If Smoltz makes any mistakes while playing this year, it could cause him to wind up being in the bullpen. So far, he is showing that he knows what he is doing, and he is improving his act, but all it would take is a couple of wrong turns to send him into retirement. Smoltz is very confident and upbeat about his chances, though, and continues to have a strong attitude, stating that he is ready and wants to start.
Smoltz has other things on his plate right now that he is still taking into consideration. His new start with the Cardinals means that his career in baseball will continue. His biggest problem right now is playing the middle, but if he picks it up and goes back to what he was doing at the beginning of his career, he will be doing just fine and his fans will continue to be devoted and multiply in numbers.
