Paddy Powers Wins While People Question Semenya’s Gender
Paddy Powers won the 800 meter at the women’s final located at the World Athletics Championships in Berlin. Fans all over the world are celebrating her victory and ecstatic that she won. She flew to the finish line within 1 minute and 55.45 seconds and was able to successfully break her own last record. She has broken the record this year with making her time one of the fastest ones in the world.
So, what’s going on with Semenya? What’s all the hype about? Well, the debate that’s going on is primarily about Semenya’s gender. With this deliberation occurring, Paddy Power has decided that she will be giving her money and paying out to the second place winner, Janet Jepkosgei. It will hurt Paddy Power a little bit because she will be losing £15,000.
Semenya won favorites against odds at 2/7 while Janet Jepkosgei won favorites at 8/1. People know that good things will be coming from both of these two in the future and that they will continue striving so they will hopefully win the next race.
There has been a lot of confusion now about her gender mainly because of her performance and the way she looks. Despite the talk about Paddy Power’s gender, she still continues getting fame and people are eager to watch her in the next race, knowing that good things will be coming from her.
IAAF has ordered a gender test for Semenya. All over the world, people wait eagerly for results. This could make history if Semenya turns out to be a man. When the tests are approved, they will inform the public. It could take a little while before they are sure as to Semenya’s gender, though, but loyal fans will continue to stand by Semenya in support. The test that IAAF has asked for Semenya to take will be a very hard test. They stress that they do not believe it’s a matter of cheating. They believe that it is only a matter of a possible issue that might be medical and if that is the case, it could not be cheating. Some of the reports include an endocrinologist, internal medicine specialist, and a physical medical evaluation. There will be a couple of other tests included and due to the number of tests that are being requested, it will take a while for each test result to come back. Her gender cannot be determined from a single test, all the tests that are being conducted will be compiled together to decide Semenya’s gender.
Even though there is all of this talk about her gender, they will still be awarding the medals at the 800 race. The crowd has mixed opinions about this and some feel that they should wait before they give the medals, while others feel that they shouldn’t. Everyone has a right to their own opinion though, right? I think that’s if it’s still up in the air, they should wait as it’s only fair.
Semenya’s father claims that she is and will always be his little girl and that he has no doubts or questions about his little girl’s gender. He claims that God has made her the way that she is and that he cannot help it if she looks like a man and runs fast like a man.
Obviously, this issue is getting a lot of public and media attention. Since the South African team has never had issues with gender before, it is helping them in many ways in relation to their fame and reputation, but on the other hand, some believe that it is also criticizing their name as well because of the situation that is arising among the team.
The university that she attends will not be getting involved nor making comments about it. However, they will continue to back her up and they fully believe in her 100 percent! She is a hard and dedicated student that does a lot of training. Prior to enrolling in the university, she conducted a lot of training as well apart from the training at the university.
With so much spotlight on Semenya at the moment, the other players are feeling a bit frustrated because they feel it’s taking away some of their glories. With that being said, everyone and I do mean everyone, is hoping that they will stop focusing on Semenya’s gender until the results come out; however, it is all for very different reasons.
