Premier League – Top Goal scorer
Start of Premier League season 2009/2010 is just around the corner with less then one month left to kick-off
I am trying to find valuable bets to invest my money on and these days, when most of the transfers are done, there are lots of interesting long time bets that can give nice wins if place your bets correct. With last season fresh in my mind and with all the new transfers and friendly games that have stared in the pre-season one can get lots valuable information about how this season will develop.
I have wondered a lot about witch team will end on witch position, who will be the top scorer, witch players and teams will surprise (both in a positive and negative way) and tried to find nice odds to play on.
And I have an opinion about who will be the top scorer in Premier League for the coming season and why I think that, so here is my pick:
Top goal scorer in premier League 2009 / 2010:
My pick: Fernando Torres @ 4.50.
Torres is big favourite to become the top scorer in Premier League for the coming season compared to the odds that the betting markets around the world offer and I am ready to agree about that.
When I take a lock over the statistic for the last couple of years I find that the top scorer of Premier League have played for one of top four teams eight years in a row. Four of these eight year he has played for the winners. So statistically he should play for one of the top teams this year as well, and that’s not so strange since the top teams in premier league often score a lot more goals then the teams a bit down in the table.
My pick, Fernando Torres, has played for Liverpool for two seasons now and has shown how god striker he really is. Last season he was injured over some games but still scored 14 goals in 24 matches (or 0, 58 goals / played match). That’s for example a better average then the winner of the goal, Nicolas Anelka, who scored 19 goals in 35 games (average 0, 54 goal / played match).
The season before that Torres scored 24 goals in 33 matches, and that’s an average of fantastic 0, 73 goals / match. But that year Premier League had a player named Christiano Ronaldo who scored amazing 31 goals in Premier League.
Christiano Ronaldo who left Manchester United for Real Madrid in Spain in this year’s silly season. Ronaldo was not only a great goal scorer but he even assisted a lot with his free kicks and corners and with him gone I think that Manchester United will loose a lot in their attacking play. They still have a lot of goal scorers like Rooney, Berbatov, and Owen (?) in their squad but I don’t see any of those like potential top goal scorers in Premier League this season.
Most of the teams that will fight in top of Premier League have more then one typical goal scorer in their teams. In Manchester United we have those who I just mentioned. Chelsea has Drogba, Anelka and Lampard. Arsenal lost Adebayor to Manchester City, and with him I think they lost lots of goals forward. They might have Van Persie and Arshavin (maybe even Walcott and Fabregas) who can score but I don’t think that Arsenal will do so many goals that are necessary.
Manchester City is an outsider in Premier League, but they have too many players that will share scoring points. Carlos Tevez, Emanuel Adebayor, Robinho, R Santa Cruz are just some of the attacking players they have in their squad.
But Liverpool only has Torres as a scoring machine together with Steven Gerrad. And that’s one of the biggest reasons why I think that Torres has a great opportunity to become Premier Leagues top goal scorer 2009 / 2010.
Of course it’s a risk to bet on the top goal scorer since the chances that the player can be injured or suspended for a longer time, but with that in my calculation I still believe that Torres is a god pick as the winner.
The odds is picked from Bwin-football
