NFL Betting Tips – Getting Started with NFL Sports Betting

The NFL is by far the largest bet upon sport in the US, second only to soccer as the most bet upon sport in the world. Because of the large interest in the NFL as a sport for individuals around the world to wager upon, a substantial amount of information is available for individuals to reference and study before placing a bet. If you’re looking to develop an edge in your wagers and come out ahead in the game consider a few of these tips to help you out:

Location

Where a game is held plays a major role in determining how each team will perform at any given time. Traditionally, some teams naturally perform better in some environments while others do not, with climate and other natural conditions playing major roles in impacting overall performance levels. Be sure to research into each team’s history with playing at a specific location before jumping in and laying your money on a team that may perform well under expectations.

Weather

Much like how a location can impact a team’s overall performance, weather can do the same. It is not uncommon some years in some locations that rain, snow, wind and other factors will play important roles in determining the overall efficiency of game plays – particularly in extreme conditions that may affect overall ball travel trajectories and make things such as field goals difficult at best. Extreme weather changes as teams travel from one game to another can also have a major impact upon players, so be sure to research both expected weather conditions at the game place as well as those at previous games to see if these will impact the teams in any ways.

Injuries

While injuries can be bad news for some teams, it is more often WHO is injuried rather than how bad an injury actually is. Don’t be fooled into thinking that a team will under-perform just because a standard player is hurt a bit – while this may somewhat affect the team’s normal operations if key players remain unhurt, the team’s overall efficiency may not suffer any noticeable changes. Bear this in mind before over-reacting to news that a player is injured and research into both who is hurt along with how severe the injury is in order to see if it might affect future games as well.

Big Favorites

Finally, be careful of teams that currently stand as big favorites to win in a game. While it’s true that statistically these teams are most likely to come out ahead; at the same time, spread levels and payout ratios may not make a wager on them worthwhile. Often an underdog can still lose in a match against a big favorite yet have a wager on them turn out to be profitable if their handicap is large enough – bear this in mind and adjust your bets accordingly in order to not be lured by what may appear to be easy money at first glance.
