Starting off with a Bang: First Week Football Betting Tips
It’s almost here: the 2010 NFL Football regular season. Have you been noshing your teeth, waiting for the real games to begin. While you’re waiting, here are a few tips you can try to make the first week of the season the best it can be.
• There’s No Place Like Home: It’s a season-long strategy, so you might as well start with it. If there’s a game that’s a toss-up, or that you simply don’t have the time to do the requisite amount of research on before placing your bet, go with the home underdog. It’s been scientifically proven that if you had bet with the home underdog over a 20-year period from the mid 80s onward, you would have turned a tidy profit. So unless the bookies change their ways, betting the home underdog is always going to be a safe strategy.
• On The Same Page: Remember, it’s week one. For the quarterback and star receivers, this is likely the first full game they’ve played at 100% performance. It’s going to take them a while to connect with each other under these conditions, so don’t bet on an offense running up 41 points, unless their opposing defense is truly atrocious.
• Defense, Defense: In that same vein, defense is more often than not going to be the unit that performs the best. However, this doesn’t mean you can’t have some huge breakdowns, especially in a new secondary that’s still trying to work out the kinks. If one team’s offense is particularly good and hasn’t undergone too many changes in the offseason, they will more than likely find enough gaps in the opponent’s defense to make a couple big plays, which can change the game in an instant.
Week one is always a challenge for football bettors. Keep these tips in mind, however, and you may be able to come out of the gate ahead in your office pool.
